Fortunately since NH doesn't require drivers to have auto insurance on their car, there is more competition and more options than in other states. After I fell asleep at the wheel and totaled my last car, I called my insurance company to cancel my insurance because I didn't have a car. They offered me an insurance plan that covers my wife and I for liability insurance on whatever we're driving instead of a specific vehicle. That way whether I'm driving my car, a rental, or even someone else's car that isn't insured, I'm covered for liability. When I lived in MA around 1994, I was paying about $2400 per year for liability insurance.
