RichWLIN, I concur.

I had temporarily forgotten about that problem, but you are absolutely correct. This is especially problematic when you are away from your own turf and don't know which stations sell which fuel.

Thus I amend my comment from yesterday...

First, let's limit price posting on mobile apps to only those fuels that exist at the station in question, by allowing senior members to restrict the tabs when they set the fuels available in the MSL, and then we can do diesel price heat maps to the benefit of all so interested.

Although the following is a bit off topic, this proposed model of limited tabs for mobile app posting is more scalable, or portable if you prefer, in the event that some other motor fuel becomes popular enough to warrant its own tab in the future, such as E85, E0, E15, natural gas, electricity, propane, hydrogen, bubble gum spit, etc.

The real problem with diesel heat maps and charts is that we still have a real problem with GB app users posting diesel prices where none exist ostensibly to satisfy the "Perfectionist" award.

The significant number of ongoing fraudulent diesel posts would tend to skew the heat map data and misinform diesel purchasers.

Need to fix the MSL to prohibit posting prices for grades of fuel that don't exist. Having done so, a heat map graphically depicting area diesel prices would be useful for diesel burning travelers.

Diesel prices vary much more than gasoline does from station to station, I think. And, it is not as widely available. Although having diesel heat price maps may be helpful, I am not certain it would provide the same beneficial information, or at least not in the same way, as the gasoline heat maps do.

Anyway, that's just something to think about statistically. Overall, I agree that this is worth looking in to.

As the current owner of two diesel sedans, and having owned diesel sedans on and off since 1977, I agree that the site is not as diesel friendly as it might be. With the introduction of more diesel passenger vehicles in 2013, this issue becomes even more relevant for GB to consider.

Anyway, diesel is a popular fuel for OTR and local truck drivers, as well as, many passenger cars. Heat maps and charts for diesel seems like as valid a request today as it was in 2010.

I don't know if drat contacted the moderators but I didn't receive anything from the moderators after I reported it that said they had been contacted nor did the moderators post anything in this topic that stated they had been notified so the logical conclusion would be they were not notified.

Yeah it's a guideline. That doesn't mean it shouldn't be followed. Jeesh!

Scout, how did you know that Drathlose didn't notify the moderators?

Cracked, it's a guideline and not a rule. So don't worry about unchecking anything. Lol

I'd much rather see an old topic bumped with new info than to see a new topic started.

kwzh's approach to revisitng dated material seems reasonable, and is certainly more reasonable than the "net nanny" who looks for minor infractions in the forums to report.

*My* take on the subject is "Use common sense". If you're reviving an old thread just to say "Hi folks" or "Lame" or even "This thread should die" (!), that's bad and will probably cause it to be locked. If you're reviving it with an actual relevant update, then it's probably OK -- though as a matter of courtesy to those who might not notice what you did, open with something like "(bump to report latest news)" -- some people might otherwise overlook the timestamps and respond to the OP as if it were a recent question.

Huh, I learn new things everyday. Didn't know they wanted us ignoring old threads. Seems like they could bump up the "auto lockdown" time to two months on the nose if they don't like old threads getting dredged up.

I'll go through my favorites and uncheck all the old threads then.

This subject has been added to the Suggestion Tracking List as possibly new topic on a long-ago-posted subject.

I think the reason GB dislikes bumped old topics is that old posts are dragged up to the top (given a new life) instead of being deleted with all the other old topics. That seems silly to me considering the cost of storage drops by the minute.

Having all the thoughts about one subject in the same topic would seem to be a good thing to me. However now that the STL exists (and is getting more "existery" by the day), the links group all the topics on a subject together, which although not quite as good as one topic per subject, may serve the same purpose.

Net nanny, that's a hoot CrackedLCD.

It is against the rules to revive a topic that's been closed for more than a couple months without first asking permission of the moderators; however, those with grade school hall monitor mentality have no way of knowing if permission was either asked or granted, and not only report the infraction, but return to the thread to take credit for doing so.

Reported, why? I don't think it's against the rules to dig up an old thread. They already have a mechanism to close old threads after a certain amount of time. No need to be a net nanny, scoutmaster.

It appears that Drahtlose contributed some relevant new information, scoutmaster. I'll report your report just to keep it fair.

In the Philadelphia area, several stations are adding Diesel each month. This trend started about a year ago and is slowly gaining steam.

I think it is only a matter of time before diesel gets more respect. In the US, it is most definitely behind the curve as the vast majority of drivers use unleaded gas. But I think time is going to show that the new clean diesels are the much wiser way to go. Just hopefully they don't also continue to rip us a new one on the price of diesel... sigh...

I would love to see the site include diesel heat maps. I, for one, would use them plenty!

I don't think GB is biased at all. I think that because the US in general is a bit biased against diesel that it doesn't get the attention it deserves. In my area, Spokane, there are far less people posting diesel prices, even when they are listed on the big board as you drive by. Because of this, I don't know how accurate the heat map actually would be. Don't get me wrong, i still would love to have it though!!

I would too. Alas GB is biased against anything diesel or biodiesel. But they have a big old catagory for ethanol.

Any word on this? State maps and price charts for all grades of fuel would really set Gas Buddy apart from the crowd.
